Choosing the right Diamond
Diamond Weight
Highlights
Carat is a special unit of weight used to indicate the weight of a diamond. It may not always accurately express diamond size.
The size of a diamond is determined by the measurements seen when viewed from above, as it will be evaluated from this perspective when placed on the ring.
To understand the size of a diamond, Carat weight should be evaluated together with these two factors:
End-to-end width of the diamond (viewed from above) in millimeters Cut quality of the diamond
As the name indicates, Carat weight describes the weight of the diamond. Just as a person’s weight does not give clear information about his height, Carat’s weight does not always lead to an accurate estimate of his size. To make a definitive decision about the diamond size, you need to know the diamond’s table width (in millimeters) and cut quality. The width of the diamond from end to end is important because the “size” you will see when the diamond is set on your ring is directly proportional to this width value.
The cut quality of the diamond should also be evaluated, because, as mentioned in the “Cut” section, a diamond’s ability to reflect light is proportional to its cut quality. A diamond that is well cut and reflects light well appears larger than others.
This means that a diamond that is well cut but has a relatively lower Carat weight is larger than another diamond that is poorly cut but has a higher Carat weight.
may appear. Once you determine the cut, color, and clarity qualities of your diamond, it is very easy to determine the Carat weight within your budget.
Just as there are 100 kuruş in 1 TL, there are 100 points in a 1 Carat diamond. So, 50 points (centimeters) equals 1/2 Carata.
Which Carat Weight is More Suitable for Me?
To find the ideal Carat weight, we recommend that you consider the size of the finger, the shape of the mount, and your budget.
If Carat weight is more important to you, you can have a larger diamond by choosing I-J color and SI clarity.
Diamond prices show a big jump between 0.50 Carat and 1.00 Carat levels. Even though the weights slightly below these figures look almost the same in terms of size, they will be more affordable in terms of price.
The smaller the finger the diamond will be carried on, the larger the diamond will appear.
For example, a 0.70-carat solitaire diamond will look much larger on a finger with a size 10 ring size than it would on a size 19 ring.
